Remember back !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! when !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! posted this "Equus Bass 770" restomodded mustang? Motor trend now has an article out on it.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

When I watched that video in Klaus' post, the car just sounded so weird, which is why I said

Also, why does this thing sound like a viper? That can't be a ford V8

Okay granted I didn't see this coming, but I was on to something. They are powered by ZR1 engines!

While the Bass770 is all Blue Oval on the outside, it’s all about the Bowtie underneath the hood. The LS9 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 and Magnetic Ride Control were borrowed from GM, with the tribute to the Mustang fastback’s 640 hp and 605 lb-ft of torque roughly !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! 638 hp and 604 lb-ft.

Kinja'd!!!

The side profile is the only thing I like about this (because it's hardly been changed). They couldn't even bother to put a modern Ford engine in it? Boooooo.

A crate LS9 is like 20+ grand, a crate 5.0 is 8 grand, and you can make it 600+hp for far less than 20 grand.

What one earth were they thinking putting a Chevrolet V8 into a Ford Mustang tribute car, slathered with mock-Mustang badges?

It just strikes me that they thought through the whole process, right up until the choice of engine. At which point they've thought 'we've done enough good work so far, lets just throw any old lump in the front and call it a day'.

It's nothing short of sloppy worksmanship, and doesn't suggest to me that the car as a whole has been thought through properly

Not a rare occurrence here, really; people have been shoving Chevy small blocks into Fords for 50+ years now. What it comes down to is that it's easy and cheap. It really doesn't matter which Chevy motor you want to throw in something, the aftermarket support is going to spell out absolutely everything for you and it will cost you less.

That said, on a car with that much work into it, neither the cost nor the complexity really stand up as reasons why you wouldn't. Perhaps they just liked the LS9.

All of that said, I think it's a gaudy, overdone hunk, no matter how well done it is. They did a great job with the side profile, but the fascias are just god awful.

All Blue Oval on the outside?

The front end is clearly 70's Mopar. As in 71 Plymouth GTX.

Kinja'd!!!

And the tail lights, while possibly reminiscent of Shelby Mustangs... also could be said to resemble some Chargers, specifically, 1969.

The Mopar-esque styling is a bit more forgivable than a GM pushrod engine under the hood of a Mustang, though.

Evidently they wanted all of the Big 3 on one car.

If anyone suggests "because reliability" or "because it's cheap power", they's about to get karate chopped in the neck. This isn't some kid's garage project. Do it right, or don't do it at all.
